Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face and the Badness of Badgers Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face and the Badness of Badgers
After referring to a copy of Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face and the Quest for the Magic Porcupine, Miss Butterworth sends them on their quest. Ketchup-Face’s boisterous personality bounces the story along, and the scheming badgers—complete with evil false mustaches—make amusing villains. They bring news of the badgers’ treachery to King Toothbrush Weasel (don’t get us started on the story behind his name…), who sends them on a quest to rid the land of badgers. However, somebody has been taking out pages from the library books and causing a little mayhem in the stories and mixing them up or re-writing them.T. Anderson’s humorously perilous quests, garnish with a Snicket-ian narrator’s crumbled fourth wall, and you have the hilarious first adventure of Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face on the island of Great Kerfuffle. She also liked the character Alfred Kendon-Furtado who won a competition to be in the book but seemingly had nothing to do except put up his hand after he'd been ignored for a while to remind people that he won a competition to be in the story. Luckily Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face rescue the day of course, in yet another adventure full of action, fun and surreal-ness. His books have been shortlisted for a number of prestigious awards – and one was chosen by The Times as one of the Best Children’s Books of the Year 2011 – but, more importantly, they make children giggle. It is extremely funny, with lots of madcap humour and children will enjoy recognising all the characters and familiar stories.
